DJ or band? Advice on selecting your entertainment

Music sets such an important tone to a wedding. Traditionally the ceremony is more classic; a string trio/quartet, guitar duo and vocals; and is the perfect accompaniment to the ceremony formalities and creates a special kind of atmosphere that's rarely found elsewhere.  

The reception is time to party so whether it's a live band or a DJ a little piece of advice - go check them out before the wedding. Do they get the party started?

The days of picking between a DJ or a band are over. Couples are viewing each aspect of their wedding celebration as an opportunity to bring in different entertainment options.

For example maybe a cabaret singer to serenade guests during the cocktail hour, a retro orchestra to add to the ambiance at dinner and a rocking dance band or DJ to keep people moving well into the night.

When hiring a DJ, see if you can find one who includes a percussionist to play along with the music so you get more of a live band experience. Or if your guests have a talent get them to perform their killer dance routine or hire cirque-style acrobats or professional dancers to kick off the reception with a short performance. If your ceremony venue allows it, consider something remarkable for your ceremony as well. Maybe hire a choir to sing at the ceremony.
