Do it together

The two of you should be registering for gifts you'll both enjoy. To decide on what you need, talk about the style of home you'd both like.  

Budgets

List a mix of goods and register for itemsa in a range of prices so people can choose gifts within their budget. 

Over-register

Better to have more than less - allow for gift needs for showers and engagement parties. Having options doesn't look greedy: you are actually doing guests a favour by giving them more choices. 

Know your guests

Some guests will choose to pitch in together to buy you something from your list that may be a little more expensive. So don't feel it's rude to add some designer pieces you have always wanted. Their is no harm in asking. 

Make time

When you rush you may later regret your choices—or overlook items you actually needed. Allow plenty of time for browsing and debating. And don't forget you can always add to your list at a later time.

Say thanks personally 

Handwritten thank-you notes for gifts received before the wedding should be sent within two weeks of arrival. Notes for gifts received on or after the wedding day should be sent within two months of your return from the honeymoon.
