Why is it that I leave every thing to the last minute? It’s my anniversary and I have been left in charge of the details. So what do I need? Luxury, stylish, upmarket, and something in our favourite neighbourhood in one of our favourite cities in the world. The choice was obvious. Trump SoHo New York in downtown Manhattan. With 46 stories and 391 elegant guestrooms and suites, it is the neighbourhood’s only AAA Five Diamond rated hotel. It’s a short walk to the exciting and fashionable SoHo neighbourhood with designer shopping, upscale boutiques, trendy restaurants and home to many of the cities galleries.
As we arrived at the Spring Street location we are greeted at the door and guided through the two-storey lobby full of warm tones of bronze and wood, and comfortable leather chairs that looks more like a stylish New York loft apartment than a hotel. From doorman to front desk everyone is so genuinely friendly and personable. The experience
is like visiting a longtime friend.
The door to our room opens and immediately the floor to ceiling windows provide exceptional uninterrupted downtown views spanning across the Hudson River. Contemporary and modern the residential-style room is our home for the next few days. We just may never want to leave!
"So which romantic exciting place are we going to for dinner?" I am asked. Intuitively my instinct for self-preservation automatically responded, while a sense of panic began to set in. “Somewhere very special, it’s a surprise!” So much of a surprise even I didn’t know. “Why don’t you spend the afternoon and have some 'you time’ pampering yourself at the spa, and I will …………. check out the gym.”
I rush down to the concierge’s desk desperately looking for some help. Tripping over my words as I try to explain my situation hoping somehow the obliging concierge can work some magic. The next thing I heard was “Leave it with me.” I had heard these words before and experience told me that more often or not it doesn't always end well. But I had no choice. I had to trust the skills of Daniel to find me a table for two at one of the cities hottest restaurants, a city that he knows better than I, to create a night to remember. No pressure!
Evening falls and we head off to our unknown destination. Armed with only directions and a name we embark on our leisurely stroll through the streets of SoHo. I had allowed enough time to do some window shopping; Armani, Burberry, Chanel and quick detour into Tiffany’s before heading towards the corner of Prince and Mercer Streets. When we got there we were to head down the dimlit stairs.
“This is gorgeous, how did you find this place.” Of course I did what any self-respecting man would do and took all the credit. Styled like the inside of a luxury Mediterranean yacht with highly polished wood paneling, round porthole windows and curved leather booths, Lure Fishbar, sails smoothly below street level.
Ultimate luxury all weekend.
