Reem Acra NY Spring 2020 ..are veils back?

Like a prayer..

It was Reem Acra’s Spring 2020 bridal show taking place in St. Bartholomew's Church, in New York City on Park Avenue. The ceremonial performance began to the tune of Madonna’s “Papa Don’t Preach” and six Lilliputian flower girls walked out in baby-pink dresses. Sweetness overload! Oh every little girl wants this moment and every guest will be making them insta-stars!

What was to follow of course were the bridal stars. There was a gown for everyone: Gem-encrusted royal dresses, silhouette gowns that hugged the body, minis that showed some leg, and plenty of the intricate, couture-like embroidery with promises and declarations of love. Words like forever and love intricately places within embroidery.

But it was Acra’s take on the veil that caught our intention: the veil over recent years has seen a descent into that something old tradition we feel we may have moved on from. Not so for Acra took veils and made them have life of their owns.

A bigger surprise? There were model grooms, too. Finally the men shared the runway in equal stature. Their suits designed in collaboration with Joseph Abboud. The attention given as much as we reserve for the brides. There were moments of recollection of royal affairs and one we swear was Prince’s shirt in Purple Rain. Much like the Met Gala we just enjoyed it was full of camp notes, and oh so charming.

And of course it would be no finale without a final surprise. Hidden through the audience singers stood up and broke out into Madonna’s “Like a Prayer.” Amen to a show with quirks, cheek and love!
