Meeting at a birthday party, Tania thought Sash was definitely the guy of her dreams – “tall with long, beachy hair!” Fast forward seven years to dinner overlooking the sea at Santorini where Sash had hidden the engagement ring in a bunch of flowers on the table. “I remember thinking to myself what an odd bunch flowers to be placed on our table because it looked as though they had literally just been pulled out of the ground - roots and all. After two bottles of champange and a three course meal, I still hadn’t noticed that the ring was hidden inside the flowers. Sash asked me to look a little closer and then I also found the ring of my dreams!”

WELL LAID PLANS
As an experienced Executive Assistant, Tania’s organisation skills would come in handy with planning all the little details the couple had discussed for including in their big day. From hand made save the date cards, invitations and favours through to a boho themed ceremony in the Fitzroy Gardens for 100 guests, everything was all set and ready to go. “Fast forward one month and the tragic news of Covid-19 hit us all. We were now faced with the realisation that we had to completely change everything we had planned and worked so hard towards,” said Tania.

“I was determined to make this the most special day of our lives and even better than we had originally planned. We didn’t let it bother us that all of our plans had to change ..we kept thinking about the bigger picture. Our wedding was for us to celebrate our love and commitment to each other, so that’s what it would be, with or without our loved ones there to join us.”

THE PERFECT LITTLE COTTAGE

Tania and Sash found The Little White House online “it was perfect to accommodate the two of us, the celebrant, our whippet Jessie and two witnesses. We both looked at each other and just knew that this was the place we had dreamt of. We quickly booked, our hearts were racing. As sheer luck would have it, the owners Regina and Piotr, each turned out to be an amazing photographer and videographer. That was a sign for us, everything had happened for a reason and that our wedding would be just perfect.”

MAGICAL HOURS

Waking up to delicious breakfast and coffee, the couple lazed around at the cottage for most of the day. “I remember thinking to myself “shouldn’t I be more stressed?” Before we knew it, it was time to get ready.” Regina and Casey, the hairdresser who Regina recommended, set up the arch, candles and cushions for the ceremony. “I didn’t have to worry about a thing and I honestly felt so special just being able to spend quality time with Sash while we were both getting ready.”

 LIVE STREAMED VOWS

The couple’s celebrant, Penny, a good friend of Tania’s from work, streamed their ceremony to almost 100 loved ones via Facebook Live. “I kept thinking that nobody was watching – but when our dog had an ‘accident’ almost on my dress during the vows, a lot of our guests left funny comments on the live stream. Before we knew it, we were husband and wife!”

THE BOHEMIAN VIBE

Tania and Sash both love the look of pampas grass and wanted to include it in their boho theme. We added decorations of gold, cream, light pink and also touches of burgundy.”

TRADITIONAL FAVOURS

Small, personalised glass mason jars filled with a Serbian alcohol called Rakija had already been hand made for Tania and Sash’s guests. “We sadly didn’t get to hand these out to anyone but my grandmother sure is having a great time drinking one every day! I’m sure she will get rid of them in no time!” Tania also made a cute sign which said “mummy and daddy are getting married”for their whippet, Jessie, to be pictured with.

EVERLASTING BLOOMS

Tania’s heart was set on including roses in her bouquet but due to the covid outbreak, was told only two days before the wedding that they could not be sourced. So Tania looked for alternatives – and decided upon artifical blooms. “I was in the florist shop for about two hours, picking an assortment of roses, dahlias, gum leaf and my own dried pampas grass for the bouquet. It was perfect and I can keep it forever.”

A GORGEOUS GOWN

Tania wanted a gown that was feminine with lace, but that was also comfortable to wear. “ I found Grace Loves Lace and fell in love with their designs.” Tania accessorised her dress with a pearl necklace and bracelet which her mother had previously worn on her own wedding day.

CASUAL STYLE

Matching the colour theme, Sash wore a casual outfit with burgundy pants and pocket handkerchief. “He didn’t want to be super formal so he didn’t wear a tie – he did have a shirt and shoe change for the wedding photos though.”

PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORIES

Tania and Sash were lucky to find that the owners of the cottage were also professional photographers and videographers. “Regina had the brilliant idea of letting me wear her incredible Jimmy Choo gum boots for our wedding photos in their paddock. We even had cows in the background! It was just the coolest thing ever. We love the pictures so much.”

A DAY TO REMEMBER

Looking back on their day and the initial stresses of re-organising their entire wedding due to covid, Tania and Sash have very special memories. “I would do this over in a heart beat. A million times”, said Sasha. “The wedding was perfectly imperfect in every single way. We are so lucky how everything worked out and we feel so blessed that our loved ones could still watch our wedding via modern technology! We will never, ever forget how our wedding turned out and we definitely have the best story to tell our future grandchildren.”

SWEET TREAT

Penny, the couple’s celebrant, made a rich chocolate mud cake spiked with creme de cacao and covered with buttercream for Tania and Sash.
