Every year the Ice Church at the ICEHOTEL opens up from December to April, offering an experience that would undoubtedly be once in a lifetime. While the hotel provides the option of “warm accommodations,” why not stay - at least for part of the time - at one of the unique ice Art Suites, which are hand-carved by a variety of artists from around the world.

The team behind the original ICEHOTEL in Sweden has announced plans to create a sustainable addition to the iconic hotel that will be open 365 days a year! The hotel will include 20 suites, a bar and a gallery and feature smooth ceiling arch design using traditional methods and modern sustainable energy. Using the near constant daylight that the region above the Arctic Circle is blessed with through the warmer months of the year, the building is planned to run purely on solar power during summer. In winter, the new addition will form part of the classic ICEHOTEL, which is about three times its size. “This ground-breaking initiative lets our guests decide whether they want to combine staying at ICEHOTEL with dog sledding and the Northern Lights or hiking under the midnight sun. It... lets us meet the desires of our clients in a whole new way,” says ICEHOTEL founder Yngve Bergqvist.

Snuggle up with your loved one in a glass igloo or luxurious log cabin, Artic Resort Kakslauttanen have it all.  Enjoy Lapland's nature and culture. Layback and watch the miracle of the northern lights or the twinkling of the bright starry sky. The glass igloos are available to book all through the northern lights season which starts from around 20 August until the
end of April.

For the adventure there are quite a few safari offerings, from snow mobile tours, horse back trails or even aurora hunting - but we heard the word Reindeer and we were in! The resort offers a relaxing trip into nature hosted by a herd of reindeers, with your very own sleigh! Whilst on reindeer safari you chat with the locals, connect with the Sami people; the indigenous people of Norway. Can't promise that Rudolph will make an appearance however.

GSTAAD PALACE

SWITZERLAND

www.palace.ch

If you’re familiar with the Swiss Alps, you don’t need to read any further: the Gstaad Palace name tells you more or less all you need to know. Gstaad is one of the most exclusive ski areas in the world. Gstaad Palace is, in short, a glamorous winter fantasy come to life. Lit up at night, looming high above the hamlet from its hilltop perch, the turreted structure looks like a castle. The interior is much as it was in the palace’s early days, though fresh renovations, state-of-the-art spa with hammam to warm the bones after a day skiing or exploring.
