Khānaa by Opel Khan opens in Surry Hills
He’s an acclaimed global chef who’s been at the top of Australias food scene for over three decades so when Chef Opel Khan opened his new restaurant Khānna in Sydney’s trendy Surry Hills, foodies lined up to get a taste of the Bengali cuisine.
Paying homage to his home country of Bangladesh the opening menu lead by Khanaa’s head chef, Lucinda Khan is a decadent explosions of perfectly matched flavors across dishes including; duck leg confit samosa with fermented daikon and mandarin; tuna with seared scallop and watermelon; lobster with prawn pitha (a savoury pancake) and dhane masala (a spice blend); sticky beef short ribs with aloo bhorta (a mashed potato dish), blood orange and salt bush.
The tasting menu is a deliciously curated selection of nine courses and the perfect introduction to Khānna and the unexpected textures and flavour combinations like tomato marshmallows (which literally melt in your mouth) served with a tart and tangy tomato chutney sorbet.
Khanaa is located at Shop 3, 335 Crown Street, Surry Hills and is open for dinner between 5–10pm from Tuesday to Sunday. Make a booking at the restaurant's website.
