AS FATE WOULD HAVE IT | Having first met in Croatia years prior Jacinta and Blake will always wonder if there may have been a little magic in their story. “We don’t believe in fate, but it is hard to ignore how the universe tried to bring us together after we first lost contact,” said Jacinta.
“We were both on Sail Croatia (but on different boats) and kept bumping into each other on different islands and parties. We would chat and dance the night away together, but we never exchanged contact details, so we didn’t keep in touch.”
Three years later they both ‘swiped right’ and reconnected on Tinder in Sydney. After speaking for a couple of weeks, they finally realised that they had already met in Croatia. “We couldn’t ignore this serendipitous reencounter, so we decided to go on a date, and the rest is history!”
Blake proposed during a romantic private dinner on the beach while on holidays in Bali 3.5 years later.
ORGANISATIONS MY NAME | Being a very organised person, Jacinta enjoyed planning the wedding and as Blake is a co-owner of a digital design agency, he was in charge of designing the invitations, website, seating plan, menus and wedding stationery.
OH PERFECT DAY | The weather didn’t disappoint - it was a hot summer’s day, and the bright sun accentuated the breathtaking harbour views from the venue.
A ROOM WITH A VIEW | Choosing the venue was about finding an intimate outdoor wedding in Sydney which could cater for our large number of guests. “Sergeants Mess had everything we were looking for – but it was the stunning harbour water views for both the ceremony and reception that we fell in love with.” Located within the national park, it provided a private and intimate feel.
STYLING | The theme was a mix of contemporary luxe with a touch of industrial, which they felt reflected their combined personalities. The colour scheme was soft pink, grey, black and copper.
BREWTIFUL FAVOURS | Jacinta and Blake wanted to add a personal touch to their favours and bottled their homemade cold brew coffee and their favourite tea ‘Jade Mountain’ from T2. Blake designed labels for the bottles which read ‘Love is Brewtiful’.
GOOD FORTUNE | Jacinta and Blake ordered fortune cookies with personalised messages for guests.
FLORAL DELIGHTS | With the venue providing a naturally breathtaking backdrop, Jacinta and Blake decided to use flowers as the primary form of decoration. They chose Jacinta’s favourite flowers; being roses and hydrangeas, “I was pleased when our florist Maddy, from Ellebore, confirmed that they were in season and available for the day. She was so amazing to deal with, the attention to detail and her bubbly and energetic personality made planning wedding flowers so fun and enjoyable.”
The floral colour palette included various shades of blush pinks and creams with a pop of deep red to match their modern luxe theme. A copper arch was designed with copper vases to add a touch of ‘industrial’ to the setting.
DESIGNER IN THE HOUSE | Being a digital designer, Blake designed the invitations, stationery and their wedding website blakeandjacinta.com
FAMILY TRADITIONS | Jacinta wanted to pay respect to her Chinese Indonesian heritage and had a tea ceremony in the morning wearing traditional Chinese clothing.
LION DANCE | There was a lively lion dance performance to the roaring sound of Chinese drums, gongs and cymbals at the reception.
BROTHERLY LOVE | An emotional moment was seeing Jacinta’s brother, Jonathan, who has down syndrome, walk down the aisle with one of the bridesmaids.
WEDDING FASHION | Jacinta wore a fully beaded gown from Blanche Bridal designed with embroidered lace motifs and crosshatching details. Jacinta wanted to have different looks for the ceremony and reception, so a detachable overskirt was custom-made for the ceremony service. Blake wore a Hugo Boss navy suit with his groomsmen in H&M navy suits. Bridesmaids wore blush pink Oleg Cassini bridesmaid dresses.
THREE TIERS! | We had a delicious three-tiered cake made of two different flavours – coconut cake for the top two tiers and dark chocolate mudcake for the bottom layer. The cake was covered with vanilla bean swiss meringue buttercream and decorated with edible 24-carat gold leaf, coconut flakes and fresh flowers.
TWO LEFT FEET | Jacinta and Blake surprised their guests with a choreographed first dance performance to a mash-up of two songs. A cover of Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t help falling in love with you’ from the Crazy Rich Asians movie soundtrack and ‘I believe in a thing called love’ by The Darkness.
“We both have two left feet, but with the guidance of our talented dance teacher, Jessica Prince (who has been on Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance), we were able to surprise everyone with a fun performance.”
